Been away for awhile? Check out old newsletters in the Archive !

After an exciting 2005 season, we are back in office land. We have gotten our office moved back to Mondamin and are getting ready to start our fall travel. We are excited about seeing those of you we know and meeting those of you who may be looking at Green Cove for the first time! For information about when and where our showings will be, check out our online travel schedule. If you don't see your town there, it doesn't mean that we are not coming; it may mean that we just haven't posted it yet. Just email us if you would like to know when we are coming close to you!

Now that we are back in the world of computers, we will again start to update our web newsletter. The best way to get information is from YOU! Have you seen any camp friends lately? Have you been on an exciting trip that you would like your camp friends to know about? Are there any camp births or weddings that we haven't mentioned? Let us know!

The summer is over but camp is still busy! With Andrew Bell here, we have been able to do a bit more with our off season programing. Just after August Camp was over, the Bent Family had a reunion of about 40 folks at Mondamin. Andrew Bent is a Mondamin Alum and was in charge of this reunion. They have one every 5 years and this was the second time they have had their family reunion here. There last was in the 30's! We hope to see them back for more zipline, tubing, riding, paddling, and dancing soon. In addition to the reunion, Green Cove has played home to some school groups from the Atlanta and Charlotte areas as well as a science camp or two.

The Canoe Clinic, a fundraiser for the Frank and Calla Bell Scholarship Foundation, took place over Labor Day weekend. There were 1/2 a dozen or so participants who started on the lake and then paddled the French Broad twice. Keep a lookout for the dates for the Spring Canoe Clinic. (This usually takes place the first or second weekend in May.) If you are interested in donating to the scholarship fund, please let us know. There will probably be more scholarship request this year due to those in our camp family affected by Hurricane Katrina.

New DVD Update!

Green Cove will have a new DVD soon! Most of the footage was shot during the summer of 2005 with some from 2004. Maybe you will see your face! We hope to have it mostly ready for our first fall showings and complete not long after that. It will be on one DVD along with Mondamins new DVD. As soon as they are ready we will be mailing out a few thousand copies. Every 2005 Green Cove camper and staff member will receive a copy. Keep an eye on your mail!

Katrina Relief

As you all know from the emails you have been receiving, a large part of our camp community has been affected by Hurricane Katrina. We know that many of you have put amazing effort into helping both camp friends and those outside the camp family. Thank you! If you live in the area affected and we have not heard from you, please check in and let us know your whereabouts. If you have questions about camp friends we will be happy to let you know if we have heard from them. Just shoot us an email!

In addition to all of the help in areas closer to New Orleans and Mississippi, we have GC folks helping out with Katrina relief all over the country. Here is a great newspaper article from Middlebury, VT about one of your favorite counselors from this summer Suvi Neukam.

Pictured is Main Camper Emma Ptak on the front page of the Asheville Citizen-Times volunteering for the American Red Cross. Hooray for Emma and Suvi they; are Green Cove girls!

GC/Mondo Paddlers make the Mags

For those of you who read Paddler Magazine you may have realized that Asheville, NC was featured in the September/October issue. Whitewater, USA! As part of the article they had 16 “Faces of Asheville”. Dixie Marree Prickett (staff 93-99) was one of these 16.

Some of our Mondamin staff are on the magazine pages as well. The September/October issue of American Whitewater has a feature about the Grand Canyon Trip that raised funds for the F.D.B. Scholarship Foundation as well as American Whitewater. Check out the article!

Equipment Sale!

For those of you who would like to bring a little bit of camp home with you, we may have the answer. We have bikes and boats for sale. Some items have only been used for one summer, some have been used for several years. Look for the "Equipment Sale" button on our home page to check out the list of what is avaliable.

Other News

Green Cove Maintainence Goddess Gina has sadly left our maintenance crew for a more corporate job in the area. We are so sad she is gone and hope she will at least stop by and visit us from time to time. A huge thanks to Gina for keeping Green Cove going strong for the last few years!

In addition to getting married to Sean Bierle (Mondo Staff 05) she has been working hard on the business they own together. And guess what, the dates don’t conflict with our Main Camp schedule! Thanks Kristin! Take a look at their website!

Lauren Miller and I (Frances Clayton) took a hiking trip on the AT over Labor Day weekend. Since I took this year round job I don't get out in the woods as much as I would like! It was great to be out for a few days and boy are there some stories to tell:-) We did a section along the NC/TN border. You will all be happy to know that Mills got to go and did a great job of carrying most of her own food!

Elisa Montemayor (Staff 92, 95, 96) sent us this picture of her on a recent trip to Egypt. Look at her put those GC riding skills to use!!
