Connecting With The Community

We have partnered with Camplify NC since its beginning in 1994. Each summer we donate a Green Cove session and a Mondamin session to provide local low-income children “a series of camp-based and experiential learning programs to teach kids-in-need the life skills required to succeed and become the leaders of tomorrow.” This article shines a spotlight on why many camps in Western NC are involved: “If the spirit of camp is camaraderie, then it’s time to challenge the trajectory of camps by collaborating within our communities. In addition to recruiting families from Southeast Asia or traveling to host camper reunions in Texas, consider something radical. What would it mean to extend equitable camp right past your fence?”

About Robert Danos

I first came to Mondamin from South Louisiana as a camper in 1979 and spent the next 9 summers here all the way through our Counselor In Training program. While attending Tulane University, I was a counselor each summer and have now been on the year-round staff for over 30 years. Before joining the year-round staff, I spent time both in teaching and child psychology. .

My wife, Susan, spent eight years on staff at our sister camp, Green Cove, and we have two girls and a boy all of whom have attended Green Cove and Mondamin, respectively.
