Thinking of our Green Cove Campers

Thinking of our Green Cove Campers

Dear Green Cove Campers,

Here at the Green Cove winter office, we are busy getting ready for summer. We know that you are wondering… will we have camp this summer?? We are hoping for it and planning on it, but the most important thing is that everyone stays safe.

We are practicing our social distancing (no hugs! No handshakes! No birthday parties!) but we are hammering away at our computers. We are coming up with new evening programs, and working on hiring your cabin counselors!

It must be hard with most of your schools closed and your extracurricular activities cancelled. During this strange time, we wanted to suggest that you try to use some of things you do at camp to make life better for everyone.

Remember how everyone pitches in to clean the cabin? Clear the table after a meal? You can take this spirit into your home. Every day, try to pitch in and encourage your siblings to help. Teach them about “hopping” the table, and maybe make a chore wheel for the house! Singing is always recommended. We’ll post some lyrics on Instagram!

Get outside in parks and wilderness areas! Go for hikes, or if you can’t get to trails, just getting outside on sidewalks with fresh air is good for the soul.

Reach out to your camp friends! If you need their contact info, just send us an email and we’ll gladly send you what you need.

Take some time to be grateful for what you have. If you have enough food to eat, a roof over your head, and family in your home, then you have more than many others in the world. You might want to consider ways to help others in more need than yourself: donating a little bit of money or food to an organization that supports the homeless or elderly, like Meals on Wheels, or your local food bank.

Share with us what you’ve been up to! Is there anything you’ve been doing that you’ve enjoyed to pass the time? How have you gotten outside for exercise and fresh air? We want to hear from you!

We know that this time is very hard, but this too shall pass. Wash your hands (We know, we know!) and be forgiving of your little brothers and sisters. And get ready for camp! We can’t wait to see you this summer!

Yours in the GC office- Nancy, Calla, Ev, and Ann Marie
